- STATEMENT -
Throughout my history as a queer artist navigating a world of trial and triumph, I feel that my work remains in a state of evolution. Since a young and curious child, my creativity has been heavily influenced by the nature of my subconscious state of mind. The purpose of my creative work is to bridge the gap between my inner and outer experience as a human being belonging to this planet; highlighted by bringing out the depths of imagination from inside of my mind’s eye. I believe that artistic expression is a form of communication in which language and words are unable to fully articulate what the artist is wanting to tell the world.

Behind the core of my creative process is nothing more than a spiritual practice. Aligning a variety of different artistic mediums to form a language in order to tell my story, I rely on the usage of photography, videography, sound engineering, creative writing, and movement; intended to bring forth a realm within me that has never existed in physical life. My work is simply a reflection of my being.
- BIOGRAPHY -
Vulvexx Vel’em is a multidisciplinary artist whose work defines its own reality through photography, filmmaking, sound engineering, creative writing, and movement. Their work transcends the physical world while bringing their inner experience to life. Influenced by their intuition, Vel’em looks at the act of creating as her spiritual practice - bringing forth her dreams to an audience beyond herself.
In October of 2022, Vulvexx participated in their first public show along with eighteen other local artists in Denver, Colorado. Below The Concrete was a DIY show that gave artists of all mediums an opportunity to showcase their works. Vulvexx showed her piece Nightmare Film: An eerie visual based around the thoughts of her tragic relationship with her father, reimagined through a realistic nightmare they experienced months prior to the show. Putting themself out in the public eye with such vulnerable work inspired them to challenge the idea of creating from difficult chapters of their human-lived experience.

In September of 2024, Vulvexx Vel’em started her very first solo art show in a warehouse in Denver. The show, Pneuma-Nexus would feature a meditation for the audience guided by Vel’em, which was followed by two short-films: Follow the Sun, a psychedelic dreamscape of memories seen from the eyes of their past, and Angels of Dawn, a piece inspired by the “angels” who look after them. “Angels are all around us. They are the trees who help us breathe, they are the voices that guide you through life.”

Vulvexx Vel’em is heavily influenced by their inner-world, sound, and by the nature of their human experience on Earth. Vulvexx believes that success itself is whatever it means to the individual; surviving life as it comes, by creating something beautiful out of any hardship that is faced. “Being an artist is a way of survival, and as a queer person living in a world where you had to raise and protect yourself as a child, creative work has always been the most transformative elixir to help get me through, and the driving force to becoming who I am as a person, today.”
